30- year-old Lungzeu Lungalang Longchar is one of the earliest members of the MoiFavs fam – blessing us every now and then with her hard work, passion and tons of fashion love! Though we feel like we’ve known her for ages now, we still wanted to know what makes this woman tick – and most importantly, what does her list of favorites look like. So we quickly got on a call with her to do this interview.
It may be worthy to point out that this mom of 2 is the founder and curator of one of the hottest Fashion accounts called @NagaStreetStyle on Instagram – which she started with her sister. It’s beautiful and empowering to see how this account (80K strong), which is being run by a super busy mom in a small town – has inspired many to indulge and escape into the beautiful world of Fashion via the #Instagram window.
So Lungzeu, tell us something about your life in Kohima, Nagaland.
I grew up in Kohima, where I did my schooling and had the most amazing childhood filled with siblings, friends, adventures, and lots of books! I remember me and my siblings and some friends would find dead rats and try to operate on them so as to save their lives (which was never successful though :p). We were very mischievous, and that is why I love reminiscing about the happy childhood I had in Kohima. I did my Bachelors from IP College for Women, Delhi University which was also a lot of fun because I was in an all-girls institution for the first time in my life.
Tell us what goes on on a regular day in your life?
A regular day for me would include my family and work mostly and some little things in between. I am blessed with two impish kids. They’re my biggest pride and joy. I love going out to eat, so we do a lot of that as well. My day usually ends with a good book or a movie/series, sometimes even a cartoon!
Tell us what was the inspiration behind your Insta Page?
I was hooked on Tumblr, back in my college days, and I chanced upon Instagram. It has given me a platform to play around with flat lays, taking pictures of my children (which I wouldn’t otherwise have thought to take on a regular basis), doing some outfit pictures etc. Eventually, Instagram became a medium for archiving memories!
“I have met a lot of interesting people through my Instagram account. My friends and well-wishers give me a lot of love and positivity. Though I am not immune to negative comments, I just choose to ignore them.”
We are in love with your personal style! Share something about your Everyday vs Weekend wear.
I would say my style is kinda minimal and feminine. I never follow trends, instead, I try to go for those which I feel are suited for my body type and looks. For work wear, I stick to a basic look like blazers over a white tee and denim or trousers and some mid heels.
For the weekends, it really depends on where I am headed to. I like wearing skirts and dresses a lot for a casual day out, teamed with a cardigan or a leather jacket and ballerinas. I love eating out and dressing up for these dinners is the best part! For dinners, I put together a bit more formal look, maybe a trench coat, tee and denim with heels. Earrings are my favorite accessories and I make sure I wear them every day- simple studs to statement earrings.
What’s your opinion on being a fashion influencer/curator from a small town (like Nagaland, in your case) versus being in a big city like Mumbai /Delhi – where you have more access?
I think your location on the map used to matter a lot before connectivity became easier. I remember it used to be a little different back then, given how it was harder for us in small towns to get hold of certain pieces of clothing. Even owning Chuck Taylors was a huge deal in those days.
Now with online shopping, we can get about just anything and I have seen the popular style change accordingly. But of course, when it comes to offline fashion events, I feel small towns still have a long way to go. That’s one area where big cities like Mumbai and Delhi still have an edge.
So how do you manage to buy from brands which are not available in Kohima?
These days, most of the brands sell online. I am especially glad that Zara, which is one of my favorite brands now sells online. And I really can’t wait for other brands like H&M to go online as well. Other than that, I try to support some good local brands and labels as much as I can. I have a friend who owns this label @bstudioboutique (Instagram), she makes all my design dreams come true!
- Any interesting project that you are working on these days?
I’m working with a friend of mine for a new collection to be launched under her boutique ‘The Peonies Closet’. I’ve always dreamed of doing something in Fashion and getting this opportunity is a real dream come true. Truly excited and loving every moment of it!
“Also, just recently, one of my favorite fashion designers Alexis Mabille just followed me back on Instagram! It was the happiest day of my life!”
A Lifehack that you believe has worked for you?
I know it sounds cliche, though I strongly believe in doing what one truly loves (and not pay attention to what others say because that doesn’t count at the end of the day). I feel that loving your work makes you more grounded and happy. It is also directly proportional to being content with what you have.
Who’s your Style Icon?
My style icon would be hands down, Coco Chanel. I admire her style as well as her bold approach to life at a time when it was still hard for women to work. I also love Alexa Chung’s style, and always draw inspiration how she mixes the latest designers with vintage clothing.
